School Choice: The Odds are Ever In Your Favor!

October 03, 2019 - Trending in Schools

Raise your hand if you know what School Choice is.

Okay, some of you do, and that’s amazing… But a large number of our Hillsborough County Public Schools families have no idea of all the options and programs available!

Most of our families choose to go to their neighborhood schools—which we fully support! There’s nothing like keeping that sense of community strong both at school and in the neighborhood.

However, some of our families want different options. Maybe it’s because the child has a special interest or talent, or their child is passionate about one of our advanced academic programs, or perhaps it’s more convenient for a family to transport the child to another school.

That’s where our Choice and Magnet options come in.

School Choice provides families the opportunity to choose the school they want their child to attend.

Applying is easy. In fact, the first School Choice window opens on October 25th at 5 p.m.

Don’t panic. The window stays open until December 31st at 11:59 p.m.—and the person who applies on the first day has the same chance as the person who applies on the last day.

This gives you plenty of time to do research and weigh options.

You can do this several ways:

  • Check out the school options online:
  • Visit the schools you’re interested in and schedule a tour
  • Go to our School Choice Expo coming to the Florida State Fair on November 1st, 3pm-7pm

The School Choice Expo is amazing because so many of our Choice and Magnet schools are there, ready to answer questions and show off the qualities that make their school great.

It’s a really cool event. Our culinary schools are baking up delicious treats, our engineering and robotics schools are showing off their tech tools and our art schools have masterpieces on full display.

Parking and admission to the Choice Expo is free. There’s even an opportunity to apply to your choice schools right there in the Florida Center.

You can apply for up to three schools.

Families will be notified by mid-February whether they received one of their Choice schools.

See! The process is simple.

May the odds be ever in your favor!
