Why #WeAchieveTogether: Kristin Valle, Reading Coach

March 02, 2020 - Employee Excellence

Why #WeAchieveTogether is a weekly blog from our Achievement Schools. It highlights the outstanding work of our staff and the high-quality programs that help our students succeed.

Kristine Valle is a reading coach at Cleveland Elementary.

“This is my fourth year teaching at Cleveland Elementary,” said Kristin. “When I became a reading coach, there was an opening here, and once I met the principal, the team, and the students, there was nowhere else I wanted to be.”

As a reading coach, her focus is primarily on teachers and helping them meet the needs of their students. How they can try different things. How they can be the best reading teachers they can be. She works with students through the teachers she coaches. Her role is to support teachers, especially those who are new, as a thought partner, and to help them grow.

One of the ways Kristin supports the reading teachers at Cleveland is through the school district’s new Expeditionary Learning (EL) curriculum that is showing amazing results. “I have never seen children so excited about reading and having such great conversations around their work,” Valle said. “We have teachers that have been teaching for twenty years who have said they are never teaching again unless we continue to use this new curriculum.”

Kristin enjoys teaching at an Achievement School because she gets to see how much the students have grown both academically and socially over the years.

“Our mission is every child, every chance, every day,” Kristin said. “We genuinely believe that every minute counts with every student. I love that I can be a part of some of those minutes each day.”
