Hospitality and Tourism Student Forum 2020

March 03, 2020 - Partners in Education

Thanks to the Hospitality & Tourism Career Awareness Leadership Forum, students from 12 high schools now have a better idea of what it takes to make it in the Hospitality and Tourism industry!

“We want to better prepare and empower students, teachers and principals with the information needed so they can formulate a career path and have the very best future,” said Dr. Elaine Liftin, President and Executive Director of Council for Educational Change.

Students, along with faculty members and administrators, received an inside look at a variety businesses within the Tampa Bay area. They saw how a high-class hotel is run at the Epicurean Hotel, took a behind-the-scenes look to see how Tampa International Airport is operated, and concluded with a look at how the culinary industry functions at Busch Gardens.

After visiting the companies, students designed a plan to create awareness of the local Hospitality and Tourism industry. They presented these plans in front of a panel of judges at our district’s Board Auditorium. The presentations ranged from PowerPoint slideshows for faculty meetings to videos for their school news shows.

“We not only want to teach the students who are here, but we expect them to present this information to a larger group of students back at their school so they can understand all about what this industry has to offer,” said Chris Jargo, Director of Career and Technical Education for Hillsborough County Public Schools.

Students learned that there are some positions they can acquire right out of high school while some companies even provide training to allow them to move in a variety of directions—laterally AND vertically.
