Not I, but we

May 18, 2020 - Student Success

The “Not I, But We” Teen Advocacy Group for #MentalHealthAwareness was formed in 2018 by Valerie Muzyka, current Junior at Sickle High School. The groups’ purpose is to replace the “I” in mental illness with the “WE” in mental wellness in order to make strides towards eradicating the stigma that surrounds the mental health community. Their mission is to cultivate a welcoming community of students who work together to establish a safe environment in which fellow peers are comfortable listening to the important discussion of mental health and learn how they can help themselves as well as each other.

In 2019, Valerie began to work alongside our Student Services team to develop her group and launch it district-wide at the SAVE Club Showcase in March of this year. We are so excited to see what Valerie has in store for this group in the future!
