Newsome High JROTC Cadets Win Prestigious Awards

September 08, 2020 - Student Success

Congratulations to Newsome High’s “Wolfpack” Battalion Commander, Cadet Max Blumenfeld, for winning the prestigious Legion of Valor!

This award recognizes achievement of scholastic excellence in military and academic subjects, and is only given to 1 out of every 4,000 Cadets. Cadet Blumenfeld is the only cadet in the entire state of Florida to receive this year’s Legion of Valor.

Cadet Blumenfeld also won the 6th Brigade essay contest. His essay, “Live with Integrity, Lose with Dignity, and Win with Humility,” was selected as the top essay in the state of Florida—marking the first time a student from Hillsborough County has won this essay contest. The 6th Brigade consists of all JROTC programs in the southeast United States.

Also, congratulations Andrew Fischer for earning the General H. Norman Schwarzkopf Leadership Award. Nearly 100 high schools from the Florida West Coast region nominated a junior who demonstrates the character, attitude, leadership achievement, athletic ability and academic standing reflective of values of West Point.  Andrew is one of only five students in the Florida West Coast region selected for this recognition.

Congratulations, Max and Andrew!
