Students gain real-world culinary and hospitality experience at Chamberlain High

July 01, 2015 - Points of Pride

The Culinary Operations Academy (COA) at Chamberlain High School provides culinary students an opportunity to gain real-world experience in a safe, fun, and diverse environment. The program currently has 100 students participating in a rigorous curriculum that focuses on the Food Service/Hospitality industry. Overwhelming support from business partners and going above and beyond normal standards are some of the reasons why the COA is the only Model Culinary Career Academy in the nation.

One of the program’s biggest supporters includes national restaurant chain Outback Steakhouse. With their support, the COA was granted the rights to construct a real-world learning environment called the Outback Café.

See the program in action by watching the video below. Best Kept Secrets is a series of videos dedicated to highlighting programs at various Hillsborough County public schools. This edition is hosted by Board Chair, Susan Valdes, with a focus on the Culinary Operations Academy program.  It’s not a secret anymore!
