At the 89th National FFA Convention, Victoria Harris, a Strawberry Crest High School (SCHS) graduate and current student at the University of Florida, was elected to the position of National FFA Secretary for 2017. As such, she will be taking off a year of school to fulfill her duties as a National FFA Officer, which will include traveling across the country and meeting influential people from all walks of life. She will be representing and serving more than 630,000 FFA members from the USA, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
During a reception held in her honor at the Florida Strawberry Growers Association Building in Dover, FL, Victoria was the recipient of many accolades and compliments. Her teachers spoke of her involvement in classes to what she has done at UF since graduation and serving as the Florida State FFA Secretary.
Harris' former IB Assistant Principal at SCHS Tiffany Ewell, spoke of Victoria's diversity within the IB program while at Strawberry Crest and her ability to be so involved while maintaining her strong academic focus. Pam Walden, Supervisor for Agriculture and JROTC in HCPS said, “We hold true in our area that FFA is a family tradition - one passed on from father or mother to son or daughter or as the case may be, brother to brother, or sister to sister. Victoria, you my dear, have become a member of an elite family that is second to none. You make Plant City, Dover, Strawberry Crest, Hillsborough County Public Schools very proud!”
Harris is only the 23rd National Officer from Florida to serve FFA, and one of only seven from Hillsborough County. Congratulations, Victoria! You will serve FFA well, and be a shining star as you represent Florida and Hillsborough County for the next year.
