In just six hours on Tuesday, December 5, more than 270 volunteers built a brand new playground from scratch in the East Tampa community. The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department partnered with KaBOOM!, United Healthcare, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to build the new playground located at 2701 E. Osborne Ave. Tampa, FL 33610, next to the Clarence Fort Freedom Trail.
Community input was provided to the design committee, including the drawings and innovative ideas submitted by students from Potter Elementary School.
The playground boasts a double-shade structure, four butcher block benches, two tree benches, four picnic tables, four painted asphalt games, 14 newly planted trees and of course the classic play equipment that will keep kids and adults entertained and coming back for more.
"I am so proud they used our ideas for the playground. Everytime I look at it, I just smile," said one very proud and excited fifth grader from Potter.
Tampa City Council Members Frank Reddick (District 5) and Mike Suarez (District 1, At-Large) stopped by to thank the volunteers and students for bringing this vision to life. Mr. Reddick said this addition will "have a long-lasting and positive impact on the community."View Full Album
