Principal's message

Dr. Kevin Gordon

I am Dr. Kevin Gordon, principal of Hillsborough High School, home of "The Big Red"! Our school is the first and oldest high school in the county. We are also home to the longest running International Baccalaureate program as well. At Hillsborough High School, students have the opportunity to get involved in Interscholastic Sports, clubs, as well as robotics. We also offer those students wishing to develop business acumen, the opportunity to get involved with our 3DE program. At The Big Red, we pride ourselves on providing all students with a high-quality education and a multitude of extracurricular activities that ensure a well-rounded experience.

Hillsborough High School IB Alliance

We invite you to become a member of the IB Alliance, a 501(c)(3) Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) dedicated to enriching the IB experience for students, parents, and teachers who are in the IB program. Your participation in the IB Alliance is an opportunity to support your child's education and foster a collaborative and supportive environment that benefits the entire school community.

Athletics at Hillsborough High

Hillsborough High School has hundreds of student athletes. The Class of 2025’s athletic accomplishments included district championships in girls’ track, and regional runner up in flag football, one game away from the state championship series marking the furthest the program has gone in school history. Senior Makyla Hickman led the team offensively with over 900 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns. She will graduate as the all-time leading receiver for Hillsborough High School. We also have 6 seniors of will be attending college this Fall on an athletic scholarship.

Counselors to meet your needs

Hillsborough High School has three counselors to meet the needs of the students. The counseling department focuses on the development of the whole student, providing personal, social, academic, college and career counseling. Support is provided for students through individual counseling as well as classroom presentations for all grade levels.

IB Program

International Baccalaureate (IB) Program

Hillsborough High houses one of Hillsborough County’s longest-running IB Diploma programs. Students apply in 8th grade and begin “Pre-IB” in grades 9–10. Juniors and seniors then take a mix of HL (Higher Level) and SL (Standard Level) IB courses, along with Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay, and CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) requirements.
3DE

3DE & Robotics

Students interested in business, entrepreneurship, or STEM can participate in the 3DE program, which includes robotics and design-thinking opportunities.

Career & Technical Education (CTE)

As part of the HCPS district, students can take advantage of hundreds of CTE courses both on-campus and at partner sites. These include Business Education, Applied Technology, Family & Consumer Sciences, Financial Literacy, and more.
