Unique Needs Aide at Summerfield Elementary saves a student's life!
Mrs. Hanane El Marzouki is a Unique Needs Aide at Summerfield Elementary.
On Tuesday, she saved a student’s life.
As a Unique Needs Aide she’s ALWAYS aware, ALWAYS on her toes, and ALWAYS mindful of everything going on around her.
Thank goodness she is.
Mrs. El Marzouki was cutting up a student’s pizza during lunch. She looked up, glanced around the table and noticed a boy grabbing at his throat and gasping.
He couldn’t speak. He couldn’t BREATHE!
She immediately jumped into action, and started thumping the child on the back—one, two, three, four, five times. Nothing. The child was still choking.
Remaining calm, she waved the officer over, trying not to panic the other students, and began thumping on the boy’s back again.
Finally, a large chunk of peanut butter sandwich came flying out, and the boy started breathing again.
Telling the story, Mrs. El Marzouki is again very collected… Until asked what went through her mind when it was all over.
That’s when she got emotional. A tear ran down her cheek.
“Afterward, I went back to the classroom,” she explained. “I just wanted to sit and collect myself but I started crying. All I could think was, I just saved a child!”
Principal Carmine Alfano agrees. He has no doubt in his mind her quick action saved the student’s life. “It doesn’t surprise me about her professionalism in response to an emergency,” he said. “I’m just fortunate enough to have her on my staff… I’m very proud of her.”
